Borys Kuzma The head of the Transcarpathian organization of National Union of Artists of Ukraine. |
The pictorial culture of Transcarpathia, as any significant artistic phenomenon, has its unique features, its periods peculiarities and a set system of means of artistic expression based on the local lasting artistic traditions. The professional art of this land has been nourished and is still being inspired by creative energy of the national aesthetics. It was this source which the great masters of painting Y. Bokshay and A. Erdeli, the founders of the Transcarpathian professional painting drew their inspiration from.
They have created the firm basis of professional fine art culture on which their colleagues, pupils and followers raised a splendid building of the independent artistic school. In 1945 Pidkarpatska Rus became a part of Ukraine and on 16 August, 1946 the Transcarpathian department of the Union of Artists of Ukraine was created. Adalbert Erdeli became the head of the organizational committee and then the head of the Union. The members of the Union were Y. Bokshay, E. Hrabovskiy, F. Manaylo, A. Kocka, A. Boretskiy, Z. Sholtes, Rosemberg, V. Svyda, I. Harapko, E. Kontratovych and A. Dobosh. Each of them had his own way in art. But their common aim was to glorify the native land.
